White Crappie

The White Crappie is abundant statewide in warm and cool water habitats of ponds, lakes and impoundments. They feed on plankton, crustaceans, insects and small fishes.

The White Crappie has a deep, laterally compressed body with several faint vertical bars on the sides. The distance from the eye to the front of the dorsal fin is longer than the base of the dorsal fin which has 5-6 hard spines.
