As a volunteer at The Outdoor Campus, you will experience a variety of opportunities that will increase your own and others' awareness of South Dakota's great outdoors.

Adult Volunteers

Qualifications to be an adult volunteer:
- Be at least 18 years of age or older.
- Submit a completed application form to the volunteer coordinator by the application deadline.
- Contact the volunteer coordinator.
- Complete volunteer orientation training and any other pertinent classes.
- Commit to a minimum of 50 hours a year.
- Agree to and pass a criminal background check.
Youth Volunteers
Qualifications to be a youth volunteer:
- Be at least 12 years of age or older.
- Submit a completed application form to the volunteer coordinator by the application deadline.
- Contact the volunteer coordinator.
- Complete volunteer orientation training and any other pertinent classes.
Community Service
We have projects to offer to scout groups, high school groups and more during the upcoming summer season. We do not offer opportunities for court-sentenced community service.
Volunteer Postitions
Gardening - The volunteer will assist the horticulture intern and care for the butterfly garden by planting, weeding, watering and assigned tasks. Must be able to lift 15 lbs and be physically able to work while standing or kneeling.
Bird Feeder - Volunteer will maintain our bird feeders in the wildlife viewing area. Must have the ability to lift 25 lbs and work independently.
Information Desk - The volunteer will assist visitors in answering questions or directing them to the proper area of interest.
Office Assistant - The volunteer will assist in a vatiery of office needs such as program prep, library cataloging, mailing and phone help. Must be able to file accurately and computer skills may be needed.
Education Assistant - Volunteer will assist the education coordinator or naturalist interns with school, preschool and youth group programs.
Volunteer Instructor - Will instruct groups of children in oputdoor skills and outdoor education classes. Leadership and teaching skills are required. To apply you must spend one season as an education assistant.
