Northern Pike

Northern Pike can be found statewide in lakes, rivers, streams, impoundments and ponds. Theya re an ambush predator often found in vegetation or submerged trees and feed on fishes, insects, crustaceans, birds and small mammals.

The Northern Pike have a “duckbill” shaped snout filled with sharp teeth and have a slender torpedo body with light markings on a dark background and a rounded tail (caudal) fin. The cheeks are fully scaled with five or fewer sensory pores on the lower jaw.
